Baby Savannah

An oldie but goodie (created by Jeremy)- I am shutting down Myspace and wanted to be able to keep this still. Some of these look so much like Leah!

Firsts

A day of firsts for several members of our family yesterday...

First up, Pooh Bear...he got to go to his very first movie. It was a VERY special treat, since he doesn't get to go just anywhere, but we figured he deserved to see himself on the big screen. And the new Pooh Bear movie turned out to be super cute...I can't wait to buy it once it comes out.

Then, Leah - we left her for a bit with the Montiel's while we ran out to eat. She didn't cry when we left, and when we got back we peeked in the window and saw her sitting on the dining room table with Andrea, chowing down on puffs. We came in, all smiles, and said, "Hi, Chickie!"... and she burst into puppy dog tears, complete with pouty lip. It was as if she suddenly realized she had been abandoned all that time and really wanted us to know how horribly it had affected her. Such a goose.

And lastly - Savannah had her first sleepover! It has been suggested last year but she just wasn't ready ("I'll miss you too much!"). But now, she is a very grown up girl and was so excited. She did have one or two moments of trepidation before we left our house, but it was fleeting. After making sure Pooh was tucked into her overnight bag, she was ready to go. She gave us multiple kisses and stood there waving happily at us as we drove away.

Hodge Podge

So many new things going on - every day I think of a story I need to write down and then I don't do it.

Leah has her first two teeth - and is working on 2 more. She is her own little person for sure - and the first baby I've known to get her top tooth first. She says "mama" in the mornings when I go to get her. I am not positive she knows what she's saying, but it's fun to pretend anyway! She feeds herself puffs like a pro, she eats pretty much any baby food I give her, and I think it's probably time to venture into real food now. Kinda scared of her choking, which is why I haven't given her much so far (flashbacks of Savannah choking issues). I saw pics of my friend's baby eating steak! (and asparagus!) - at 9 months and so I feel a tiny bit silly giving her only pureed stuff. Oh well. I know for sure she's not ready for steak and asparagus. Although - two teeth, so hey, maybe she is!

Savannah has been so intrigued with smoking lately. Not as in, she wants to try it, she is just fascinated by who, why, how they do it. She saw a No Smoking sign in Costco today and she asked a million questions about it, why they didn't allow it, what it meant, on and on.

Then later we saw a guy smoking in his car and she wanted to know if it tasted or smelled good. To which I said an emphatic "No!" She always forgets what they're called - cigarettes - and she calls them blowers. Ricardo and I find that extremely hilarious. Today she asked, "Does anybody call the blowers "smokers" as a nickname?" And I said, "No, but the people using them are called "smokers." And she said, "Ohhhh!" in a very enlightened, understanding voice.

Yesterday we were outside a store and I said, "Ew, it smells like smoke out here." She immediately panicked and said, "Oh, no! Should I breathe? Is it ok? Should I hold my breath!??" All because I once told her it's not good to breathe smoke. My very literal little girl.

It rained a few times recently, a few good downpours, the first of Leah's lifetime (terrible). Savannah was in heaven. I had gotten her a fun butterfly umbrella this spring, and she has been waiting months to use it...she would say, so hopefully, when we would go somewhere..."Maybe I should take my umbrella in case in rains..."

It finally did.

How do they get the voices on there??

Leah's bassinet (well, her ex-bassinet now) has this little record feature on it. It is supposed to be for the mom to record her voice and play it back for her baby to settle her down, but since I can't imagine that working too well, we never used it.

But Savannah figured it out, and has spent many delighted minutes recording herself and playing it back.

Just now we were listening to a CD, and she asked, "Mom, how do they get their voices like that? Do they record?" I said yes.

"Oh," she nodded, "Do they have a really big bassinet to record into?"

Tried to explain it, but she kept coming back to the bassinet. I guess if thats the only recording device you've ever known, nothing else makes sense!

I told her Auntie Jamie has a bunch of recording equipement, and now she wants to fly out there and record herself.

Rolling!

She rolled - finally! One week shy of her 6 month birthday, and she finally pushed herself from her back to her tummy. Unfortunately, nobody saw it. Savannah and I were in the kitchen, getting her a second bowl of Cheerios (that's a whole different story - Savannah is growing like crazy, I think, and is always hungry) and we heard Leah crying from her birdie mat. Unusual, because she likes her birdie mat and doesn't cry until she has been there at least 30 minutes, normally. So we went to check on her, and there she was, on her tummy, but with her left arm still stuck underneath her.

Great rejoicing and cheering commenced, while she laid there and wailed. :)
