7 weeks later, I'm back! I'm telling you, I wish I had the momentum to write every day. But anyway...
Malachi just rolled over! He was on his birdie mat, the same birdie mat that saw both girls' first rolls as well...laying on his back, sucking his thumb like crazy. I was in the kitchen making eggs and avocado for Leah, and I heard him start to fuss. It was just a complainer fuss at first but it got louder and louder, so I went to check on him, and there he was on his tummy! I clapped and cheered while Leah wondered what the celebration was all about. I called Ricardo right away to tell him, and the first thing he asked was how old the girls were...and then with a note of pride noted that it WOULD be the boy to do it all early. Haha. For the record...he is 15 weeks, a week and half shy of turning 4 months.
Yesterday I went to TJ's to get groceries, and while I was there in the chip aisle, which I should never be allowed to go down and which I was only there to get Akmak crackers, I saw something called Nacho Kale Chips. They looked interesting enough that I reached for a bag and read the ingredients, and saw that they seemed pretty legit. So in the cart they went...
When I got home I opened them and tried one...and was so amazed at how delicious they were! They had the crunch of a chip that I so crave, and phenomenal flavor. They reminded me a lot of Sun Chips, garden salsa variety, which I love but never buy anymore. I thought that my family would be equally as thrilled, and gave Savannah one first. A few munches, and she announced she liked it. But somewhere between the first and second chip, things changed, and she wrinkled her nose and said now they tasted gross. ???
Up next was Ricardo, and again, I gave a sample and waited for excitement to ensue. To say there was a lack of positive feedback would be an understatement. He could not pinpoint WHY exactly he didn't like them, but he absolutely did not agree with me that they were good - or ALMOST as good - as chips.
Well, that was all last night. Today I took the little ones outside to play, and grabbed the kale chips to munch on while we were out there. Leah spied the bag right away.
"What's that!?"
"Look!" I said, infusing my voice with excitement. "They are green chips!"
"I want one," she said and proceeded to munch away. Two seconds later the little nose wrinkled up, much like here sister's had. "I not like it. I not like this GREEN chip. I want a different one. I want a
LELLOW chip!"
When I laughed and told her sorry, no yellow chips, just green chips, she decided they might taste better if she held the bag herself. She ate several bites and then gave it back. I can tell she is undecided, maybe a bit confused by them. She probably thinks they're good, but not quite in the same way that her beloved lellow chips are.

Adjusting
Malachi will be 8 weeks old tomorrow. I still need to sit down and write a post about his birth, but first...I've been thinking, wracking my brain trying to remember when Leah was a newborn. I honestly can't remember ANYTHING. Occasionally Malachi will so something, and I'll have a flash of deja vu, thinking, Oh, yeah, Leah used to do the exact same thing! But as far as having exact and set memories of that time with her...nothing.
I thought it was pretty strange, this lack of memory, but when Mom was here, she asked me something about Malachi, about what he did the previous week. I looked at her blankly, and absolutely could not remember. The days, the weeks, were all blurring together, and now - not only could I not remember Leah's newborn days, I couldn't even remember Malachi's previous week!
So I'm pretty sure I need to start blogging again.
Probably the hardest part of my day is around 4 o'clock. We get home from getting Savannah at school, and she is STARVING, and she will tell me how hungry she is nonstop until she is fed. Sometimes Malachi needs to eat right then too, plus there is homework to do, and dinner to finish (or sometimes start!) and Leah is clamoring for a woo-woo.
Two days ago, right around this time, I took Malachi back to our bedroom to change his diaper. As usual, the girls go where I go, and they all piled on the bed to get one inch away from his face and talk to him in high-pitched squeaky voices. He was a little bit stuffy, so I grabbed the bottle of nose drops and was concentrating on getting them in his tiny nose. I normally try to watch Leah when she's on the bed with him - I am always afraid she will stand up and then plop on his head - but I was so focused on his nose that I was oblivious. They were bouncing around, and then out of nowhere her little foot came swinging across and grazed the side of his head. I don't think it was hard, but he started wailing like nobody's business. It freaked me out, and I snatched him up and marched around the side of the bed, where she was now lying on my pillow, with Savannah sitting by her feet.
"You just kicked Malachi in the HEAD!" I said, and I'm sure I sounded super mad.
Poor Savannah, she looked at me with stricken eyes, and said, "Who, me?"
"No. LEAH!"
Leah, not at all sure what I was thundering around about, gave me a half smile, and said, "But why?"
Ever the rule follower, Savannah instructed her, "Say your sorry!"
At that point I told Savannah to take Leah to her room and play with her so I could have a couple of quiet minutes and so I could check him. I took Malachi back to the rocking chair and started to feed him (he was perfectly fine). A couple of minutes later the girls came out, and Savannah again prompted Leah to apologize.
"Sowwy," Leah said, although I still don't think she knew what was going on.
Then Savannah said, "Mom, it seemed like Leah was kind of happy at first that she did it."
I didn't think Leah was paying attention, but she immediately honed in on that, and started shaking her head vigorously.
"I NOT like it!" she announced firmly.
Lovely 4 o'clock hour.

An oldie but goodie (created by Jeremy)- I am shutting down Myspace and wanted to be able to keep this still. Some of these look so much like Leah!

Firsts
A day of firsts for several members of our family yesterday...
First up, Pooh Bear...he got to go to his very first movie. It was a VERY special treat, since he doesn't get to go just anywhere, but we figured he deserved to see himself on the big screen. And the new Pooh Bear movie turned out to be super cute...I can't wait to buy it once it comes out.
Then, Leah - we left her for a bit with the Montiel's while we ran out to eat. She didn't cry when we left, and when we got back we peeked in the window and saw her sitting on the dining room table with Andrea, chowing down on puffs. We came in, all smiles, and said, "Hi, Chickie!"... and she burst into puppy dog tears, complete with pouty lip. It was as if she suddenly realized she had been abandoned all that time and really wanted us to know how horribly it had affected her. Such a goose.
And lastly - Savannah had her first sleepover! It has been suggested last year but she just wasn't ready ("I'll miss you too much!"). But now, she is a very grown up girl and was so excited. She did have one or two moments of trepidation before we left our house, but it was fleeting. After making sure Pooh was tucked into her overnight bag, she was ready to go. She gave us multiple kisses and stood there waving happily at us as we drove away.

Hodge Podge
So many new things going on - every day I think of a story I need to write down and then I don't do it.
Leah has her first two teeth - and is working on 2 more. She is her own little person for sure - and the first baby I've known to get her top tooth first. She says "mama" in the mornings when I go to get her. I am not positive she knows what she's saying, but it's fun to pretend anyway! She feeds herself puffs like a pro, she eats pretty much any baby food I give her, and I think it's probably time to venture into real food now. Kinda scared of her choking, which is why I haven't given her much so far (flashbacks of Savannah choking issues). I saw pics of my friend's baby eating steak! (and asparagus!) - at 9 months and so I feel a tiny bit silly giving her only pureed stuff. Oh well. I know for sure she's not ready for steak and asparagus. Although - two teeth, so hey, maybe she is!
Savannah has been so intrigued with smoking lately. Not as in, she wants to try it, she is just fascinated by who, why, how they do it. She saw a No Smoking sign in Costco today and she asked a million questions about it, why they didn't allow it, what it meant, on and on.
Then later we saw a guy smoking in his car and she wanted to know if it tasted or smelled good. To which I said an emphatic "No!" She always forgets what they're called - cigarettes - and she calls them blowers. Ricardo and I find that extremely hilarious. Today she asked, "Does anybody call the blowers "smokers" as a nickname?" And I said, "No, but the people using them are called "smokers." And she said, "Ohhhh!" in a very enlightened, understanding voice.
Yesterday we were outside a store and I said, "Ew, it smells like smoke out here." She immediately panicked and said, "Oh, no! Should I breathe? Is it ok? Should I hold my breath!??" All because I once told her it's not good to breathe smoke. My very literal little girl.
It rained a few times recently, a few good downpours, the first of Leah's lifetime (terrible). Savannah was in heaven. I had gotten her a fun butterfly umbrella this spring, and she has been waiting months to use it...she would say, so hopefully, when we would go somewhere..."Maybe I should take my umbrella in case in rains..."
It finally did.

How do they get the voices on there??
Leah's bassinet (well, her ex-bassinet now) has this little record feature on it. It is supposed to be for the mom to record her voice and play it back for her baby to settle her down, but since I can't imagine that working too well, we never used it.
But Savannah figured it out, and has spent many delighted minutes recording herself and playing it back.
Just now we were listening to a CD, and she asked, "Mom, how do they get their voices like that? Do they record?" I said yes.
"Oh," she nodded, "Do they have a really big bassinet to record into?"
Tried to explain it, but she kept coming back to the bassinet. I guess if thats the only recording device you've ever known, nothing else makes sense!
I told her Auntie Jamie has a bunch of recording equipement, and now she wants to fly out there and record herself.

Rolling!
She rolled - finally! One week shy of her 6 month birthday, and she finally pushed herself from her back to her tummy. Unfortunately, nobody saw it. Savannah and I were in the kitchen, getting her a second bowl of Cheerios (that's a whole different story - Savannah is growing like crazy, I think, and is always hungry) and we heard Leah crying from her birdie mat. Unusual, because she likes her birdie mat and doesn't cry until she has been there at least 30 minutes, normally. So we went to check on her, and there she was, on her tummy, but with her left arm still stuck underneath her.
Great rejoicing and cheering commenced, while she laid there and wailed. :)
